SC Home Rx (SCHRx) is currently in the training phase of implementing its new automated medication dispensing system from Synergy Medical. SynMed Ultra is the company’s top-of-the-line system for dispensing and automating the production of single or multidose blister packaging in a wide variety of configurations customizable to the client.
Medication adherence is a multi-billion-dollar problem in the US. A study published in the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association found that 26% of hospital readmissions (first 30-60 days) are medication-related, and most are considered preventable.
Blister packs that can organize a patient’s medication by day and time have significantly higher adherence rates in the home and community setting than traditional 90-day supply prescription bottles dispensed by many pharmacies. One recent randomized controlled trial of 200 community patients 65 years or older taking four or more chronic medications showed a 97% adherence rate using blister packs compared to 61.2% adherence using traditional dispensing methods. The added benefit for communities, especially when utilizing a multi medication blister pack configuration, is an up to 75% reduction in time for staff to perform medication passes.
