As a full-service in-home and telehealth provider, South Carolina House Calls (SCHC) includes Psychotherapy as one of its essential services.
Dr. Bianca Best, DNP, MHP, PMHNP-BC, has over twelve years of experience in inpatient, therapy, substance abuse, and working with VA patients. Her practice today with SCHC is 100% virtual and focuses on medication management. Dr. Best's philosophy is an assessment-style visit that is less clinical and creates a space where the patient and caregiver can express their concerns—using plain language without medical jargon and a non-judgmental attitude. Best allows her patients to feel comfortable and open. Dr. Best stated goal is "to promote open and honest communications. I stay in close contact with my patients and their caregivers to offer ongoing support, and hopefully, together, we can reduce unnecessary hospitalizations.
Brad Martin, LISW-CP, is less focused on medication management but does query his patients whether they think their current prescriptions are helpful. Sometimes those conversations reveal relevant information that Brad then relays to the patient's provider. According to Brad, "psychotherapy is about listening. I engage patients utilizing a person-centered approach founded by Carl Rogers, focusing on aspects that allow the patient to be the expert of themselves. My goal for a series of visits is to have the patient identify and build upon their strengths which often leads to an improved mood and emotional outcomes." As a clinician, Brad assesses each patient for any safety concerns, including suicidal thoughts/behaviors and overall safety.
