A proud Lexington County native, Dr. Hook's journey in medicine began at Presbyterian College, where he graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Biology. His academic pursuit continued at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where he earned his medical degree.

Following medical school, Dr. Hook completed his internship and residency at Greenwich Hospital/Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut, focusing on an intensive Internal Medicine core. During this transformative period, he had the privilege of learning from Dr. David Morris, a renowned figure in the field and considered the smartest internist in the United States at the time. Dr. Morris instilled in Dr. Hook the significance of staying current with medical literature, establishing close personal relationships with patients, and conducting thorough history-taking and physical exams—a practice that is now somewhat considered a lost art.
